Deductions & credits
@Aksus2012 wrote:Trust me I know. The actual issue is the repayment protection is for some reason not giving me my full 3600 (1800 each child) for my 2 children. It keeps taking away an extra 1500 out of that 3600 because I'm not claiming my nephew this year. I've read multiple documents from the IRS on schedule 8812 and the "Repayment Protection" is supposed to prevent this from happening. Something needs to be fixed.
I think you are misunderstanding how it works.
Did you receive $5100 in Advance payments (3 children, $1800+$1800+$1500)?
You are now claiming 2 children, for a total of $7200 credit. You already received $5100, so you get $2100 more. You are not repaying anything (you are receiving additional credit), so the repayment protection does not apply.
