Economic Impact Third Payment
Can somebody give me a decent explanation about this whole thing? My scenario - both the wife and I got letters from the IRS about the "$2100.00" we each received as part of the 3rd EIP. So, $4200.00 total. Except we never did. No paper checks, and I've gone over our bank account several times looking for any electronic deposits. None. Nada. I just did my taxes with TurboTax (late, I know. I kick myself every year). Got to the part for EIP. I wasn't 100% clear on it, even with some research online. What happens if I tell the IRS I never saw the money? My guess was they'd assume I was lying, scour my accounts, force me to jump through endless hoops to prove it. I ended up filling that section out as if we HAD gotten the money (even though we didn't). Sounds like the EIP was non-taxable, so I'm not being hit for extra income. Yes, I lose out on $4.2K I could have put to use. Bummer. But my biggest goal is to avoid dealing with the IRS and all their BS. In summary - we never received any EIP money (3rd payment). IRS thinks we did. Thinks they sent us $2100.00 each. I just went along with it. Said "Yep! You're right!! Thanks so much!" and claimed it as such on the return. Will that be okay?
