Deductions & credits
Yes. If you drive to volunteer for a qualified charity, that mileage is deductible as a charitable donation. The allowed rate volunteers can claim is 14 cents per mile. Please note, you have to be volunteering yourself. You can't, for example, be driving a child to a volunteer activity. In order to take this deduction, you must itemize your deductions (as opposed to taking the standard deduction). To enter in TurboTax, click on the "Deductions & Credits" tab. Next to "Donations to Charity in 2021" select "Start" or Review. On the next page, click on "Add" next to "Mileage and Travel Expenses".
