Deductions & credits
For those of you watching this post, I reviewed IRS documentation more closely. (Warning: I am no tax expert so if anyone disagrees with me or can steer me in another direction, I'd love you input.) #1: I should have stated that I serve as a director/officer on a volunteer basis. #2: I realized that expenses for this type of non-profit organization were not tax deductible as a donation; this only applies to 501(c)(3) organizations, churches, education-based organizations, hospitals, etc. I was hoping that expenses could be deducted basically as an Employee Business Expense (IRS Form 2106) as I used to qualify for this before I retired.
Upon further research, it appears expenses for this type of organization cannot be deducted. See Instructions for Form 2106 for more details.
