Deductions & credits
It depends.
If you are itemizing your deductions, please follow the instructions below to enter your contributions:
- Open your return.
- Search donations.
- Select the Jump to donations link.
- Answer yes to the question Did you make any donations to charity in 2020?
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If you elect to take a charitable deduction on top of using the standard deduction, you cannot enter this through the Itemized Deductions screens. For this year, even if you don’t itemize, you may take a charitable deduction of up to $300 ($600 if married filing jointly) for cash contributions made in 2021 to qualified organizations.
If you are taking the standard deduction, please follow the instructions below :
- Open your return.
- Click Federal from the left side of your screen.
- Click Deductions &Credits on the top of the screen.
- Scroll down and click the Wrap up tax breaks button.
- Continue until you reach the Get a tax break for donating cash to charity screen.
- Enter your charitable cash contributions.
