Deductions & credits
Yes, I've been using the direct debit function in TT for years. The first time I used it, it failed. TT asks if the bank account is a checking or savings account - at the time, I considered the account to be a savings account although the bank actually classified it as a checking account. But having figured out that little wrinkle, it's been smooth sailing ever since.
And yes, its a great way to confirm that the transmission reached its destination. My experience is that the IRS 'acceptance' comes within a few minutes of when I submit, and the bank transfer shows up the next business day. The state return (in NY) takes a day or two longer for 'acceptance', and the bank transfer may not occur for several weeks. But once I see the Federal bank transfer, I know that the process worked and I can relax.
