I need to correct the basis on Form 8606 for my 2018 and 2019 return. This does not affect or change anything on my 2018 or 2019 1040 forms or my return amount for those corresponding years.
Do I need to file a 1040x for either year, or can the amended 8606 forms for 2018 and 2019 be mailed in without a 1040x being filed since no changes are being made to the 1040, only the 8606 forms?
Can a simple letter explaining data correction suffice, mailing to the IRS address indicated for receipt of this years 1040 forms?
