Back I’m 2007 to 2010 I went to school, I don’t think I ever once received the American opportunity tax credit. I did get married once and for one year my ex wife might have received it. I tried to find my old tax returns but the irs website won’t go back far enough to see if I claimed it in 2009 or 2010. I don’t think I did but I’m pretty sure I used the hope credit. TurboTax is saying I qualify. Does TurboTax actually check, or is it going off of what I input? I’m sure I could at minimum qualify for a year or two, but what happens if I’m wrong? Last time I had a mistake on my taxes I didn’t find out for years and I don’t want to receive a massive bill years from now.
