Deductions & credits

The maximum child tax credit in 2020 was $2,000.  It also could've been divided up between "Child Tax Credit" and "Additional Child Tax Credit" on your tax return.

For 2021, the child tax credit is a maximum of $3,000 for children 6 and over.  The credit is $3,600 for children under 6.  Generally, the advance child tax credit payments are either $250 or $300 so I'm unsure how the $2,100 amount was tallied up.  If you and the father have both received $2,100 for the same child in advance child tax credits, it will need to be reconciled on both tax returns so that only the parent claiming the child for 2021 actually gets the credit.
