2021 is coming to an end and I wanted to purchase a brand new EV qualified for the federal non refundable credit of $7,500. I plan to use this car for my business.
My question is, if I purchase the car before year end of 2021 will I have to claim it on my 2021 return? I won't be able to take full advantage of the credit in 2021 and would prefer to put the car in service in 2022 and be able to claim it on the 2022 return instead. However, I would like to purchase the car soon before year end for fear of missing out on what's left at the dealer lots. Essentially what im asking is does the credit apply to purchase date or service use?
