Deductions & credits

In the case you did not receive the Child Tax Credit and you do qualify for it, you can amend your return to correct the information which initially disallowed the credit.

Here are the qualifications required by the IRS for Child Tax Credit:

Here are the qualification required by the IRS for Other Dependent Credit:

  • Please review the criteria above.
  • Please review your return, if you did not receive these credits.
  • Make a backup copy of your .tax file and the .pdf file.
  • Then initiate the Amend my Return process to correct the information.
  • Review the number of months the child lived with you.
  • Review the question if the child is eligible to work according to their Social Security Card.  Essentially it does not have a stamp that states "Not Eligible to work"
  • There may be other questions along the way.
  • If you need additional assistance, please reach out to TurboTax Live Agent for clarification.
  • Evaluate if you need to amend your state return, as this may affect some states, but may not affect others.
