The CPA misinformed you about mailing vs. efiling. It is definitely possible to efile with multiple countries.
Further, efiling does not prevent the IRS from manually checking your return. Would be nice if it did, I guess?
This annoyance may have been created by the IRS (by changing their input requirements) but TT is in the business of providing software that meets the IRS requirements. They've failed at that.
The way to avoid it is to use a different software package, from a vendor who actually bothered to update their software this year.
Finally, the Simplified AMT election does not eliminate the 1116 form(s) from your return.
