8606 line 14
I apologize if I use incorrect terms or I am to wordy but I have done a backdoor Roth since 2015. When going through the steps for 2020 taxes it asked if I have ever tracked non deductible Traditional IRA 2019 or years prior. I answered yes. Next it asked to enter in total basis as of December 31 2019. Using my 2019 form 8606, I went to line 14 and entered that number. This is where I have two questions:
1) It said the information I input was different than what Turbo tax had on file, which is frustrating since I have used Turbo tax every year. Why isn't it matching?
2) Since my ending Traditional IRA balance is ZERO each year because I contribute and convert the whole amount to a Roth each year, should my total basis 8606 line 14 increase each year? So for example 2015-2019 total basis be $22,500 for my 2019 total basis? Or would it just be $6,000, since I converted the whole amount each year?
I hope that makes sense! Thanks for any help!
Best,
Jozzy
