Deductions & credits
SUCCESS!!! After seven straight weeks of trying to combine 1098’s and submitting that way, I finally got it to work today. I actually entered two separate 1098’s (of the seven total). One was for my primary home I sold in Feb, 2020 that was in use over four years (so no issue with capital gains) and then others were the result of three moves in 2020, each with the loan initiated by the builder and then sold off. I labeled the second one “MULTIPLES (6)” and combined the interest, points and taxes as advised by both a CPA friend and TurboTax Professional (after a 90+min phone call). For loan origination date, I entered the oldest and deducted all the points for this tax file year.
The IRS and States of NY, MD and AZ all accepted the TurboTax forms.
