The fix will take any half-way decent coder 30 minutes. The code has already been written (they have three lines available today). They just need to add more lines. For that, they will get added revenue every single year moving forward. Over the long run, they'll probably make money by fixing this issue from me alone (I spend around $700/year on TurboTax services as of today, with a strong likelihood that will go up over the long run). Any additional person will be pure profit. In the partnerships I am in that generate the withholding, there are around 1,000 investors, all of whom fall into the same state filing requirements as me.
My opinion on the safety of mailing tax documents changed dramatically after one of my tax returns sent USPS went missing for months a couple of years ago, and after I never received a K-1 in the mail last year that the accountant swears she mailed.
