Deductions & credits

It depends.  Charitable contributions are deductible on the year it was paid. If you donated in 2020, deduct the amount on your 2020 federal and state income taxes, and 2021 will be deductible on your 2021 federal income tax return and state income tax.

 

The 2020 charitable deduction limit (60% of  AGI) was temporarily suspended.  Individuals may deduct qualified contributions of up to 100 percent of their adjusted gross income if cash contributions were made in 2020 to a qualified non-profit organization.
