How to get your EIC with no income
I had a customer who had no income to report and therefore was not getting the question about using last year's AGI (from 2019) as income. You know you have this problem when you go to the EIC section and it tells you to please complete your information and send you to My Info. The issue is not in My Info but rather there is no income entered. Here are the steps I followed:
1) Go to the Income section and go down to Miscellaneous income.
2) Enter an income and name it anything and enter a value (I used $20). This will produce an income for the taxpayer that will trigger the software to give the taxpayer the option.
3) Return to the EIC section in Deductions and Credits and follow the interview.
The software should now ask you if you want to use your Earned Income from 2019 for 2020. Fill in the value and you should be all set.
4) Go back to the Income section and delete the income you entered. If your return is finished, go to Review and then E-file.
