Your numbers don’t seem to add up. $2900 would be the correct amount for married filing jointly with one dependent, but $1200 will be the correct amount for married filing jointly with no dependent. Did you change dependents during the year? Are you claiming a qualifying child dependent on your tax return this year? also, be aware that the credit is based on the number of dependents you claim and not their identity. If you had a dependent in 2019 who turned age 17 in 2020, and you added a new dependent, you would not qualify for anything additional because the number of dependents would be the same, even though their identity is different.
