It might not be on the 1098 at all.

The lender could enter it on your 1098, but there is no required box for them to report it in.

If a lender does report it on a 1098, they would label it "real estate taxes paid".

Sometimes, property taxes are written on the bottom of the form, or the lender will send you a separate "Escrow Statement".

If you are not sure, you can call your mortgage company to check and see how much you paid. You can also check with your county to see what real estate taxes you paid in 2016.  Often, you can check online for this information.

Once you obtain the information, here is the easiest way to get it entered:

  1. Log into your TurboTax Online Account
  2. Enter 1098 in the TurboTax search box, and press the Enter key.
  3. You will jump to the Enter your Mortgage Lender screen,
    Enter the lender's name and click Yes.
    IF you see the Home Loan Deduction Summary screen (you have been here before), click either Add a lender, or Edit next to a lender name.
  4. Finish by answering the interview screens
