You can deduct non-cash donations in New York State. If you claimed an itemized deduction for gifts to charity other than by cash or check on your federal income tax return (as shown on your Schedule A, line 12), then it should flow to your IT-916, Line 17.

 

Something to consider is the amount of your non-cash contribution. You must fill out additional information on Form 8283 if your deduction for each noncash contribution is more than $500. If additional information was not filled out (such as date, cost or adjusted basis, fair market value, and the method used), your non-cash donation may not be flowing to your state return. 

 

Please also keep in mind that if your recomputed federal adjusted gross income (Form IT-201, line 19a), is over $167,000, your itemized deductions may be limited.
