I have reviewed the guidance provided by the IRS and it indicates that up to $300 can be claimed, even if you take the standard deduction. I originally put the value that I can back up with receipts, which is $600. Error. Then I assumed that TurboTax was not automatically capping this based upon IRS rules, so I changed it to $300. Same error. Then tried $150. Error. Then tried $0. Only enter $0 is allowed, but it won't say why.
