It depends.. The IRS reminds donors that contributions to foreign organizations generally are not deductible. For more information see IRS Publication 526 (page 3).
- Charitable contributions that are not deductible include Foreign organizations (except certain Canadian, Israeli, and Mexican charities).
Alternatively, the American Australian Association has established the tax deductible (for US citizens) Australian Bushfire Relief Fund, with 100% of the donations being directed to the Red Cross' Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund. The Association will issue an official receipt for your U.S. tax-deductible donation. For more information click here.
