Are health insurance premiums deductible if self-employed but medical insurance is through a former employer’s early retirement plan?
My wife and I were self-employed throughout 2020. Our medical insurance coverage for 2020 was through my former employer's early retirement plan. The early retirement plan extends medical coverage for retirees at favorable group rates for three years starting Jan 1, 2020. In 2020 I worked no hours for my former employer and was not considered an employee, but did receive a final severance incentive bonus early in the year. The pay statement for the bonus shows federal withholding for social security and medicare, but no pre-tax deductions for healthcare insurance.
Can our 2020 medical insurance premiums can be claimed as a self-employment healthcare insurance deduction (up to our net profit) and/or itemized deduction?
