Look at the bottom of Form 1040, where your signature appears:
"Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and complete."
Since you are now aware the return is not true, correct and complete, you are obligated to file an amendment and pay back any monies owed.
