How to report Dependent Care Expenses that exceed Dependent Care FSA $5K
Our expenses for Long-term Care for my handicapped mother who lives with us and is our dependent, is 13K. I contributed 5K to DepCare FSA. I reported $5K in DepCare Credit section - to get the FSA benefit (so that the 5K does not get added back as income), then the 8K as LTC deduction under medical expenses.
[Note:
We have enough medical expenses to qualify for medical expense deduction. My mother has medical conditions that qualify her for long-term care.]
Is that the correct way of reporting: 5K on DepCare Credit and 8K on MedExp Deduction vs showing 13K on DepCare Credit section and 8K on MedExp Deduction?
Did not want to show 13K in the DepCare Credit section as it might be misconstrued as double-dipping
