Deductions & credits

If you have already worked on the state tax returns, return to the state taxes tab by clicking on State in the menu on the left hand side of the menu.  Then click delete beside each state to reset both returns.

Then add both Georgia and California returns back.

Next, start with the California return.  (Normally, we suggest starting with your current state of residence.  One exception to this rule involves when you one of the states is California, as in your situation.)

Walk through the California interview and allocate any items of deductions to California through the state interview portion.  There may be instances where you aren't asked questions about some items, and that is okay (some items may not be deductible in California or may not apply.)

After you have completed the California interview proceed with the Georgia interview where you will allocate again the items that apply to Georgia.

Once both are complete compare the entries to be sure they look like you expect for them to.
