Deductions & credits
Can someone take another look at how this 2018 form 8911 is functioning in TT 2018? I'm having the same problem as others- I enter my EV charging station expense and it shows no credit for it. However, it's not due to any of the issues mentioned already, like AMT or tentative tax, I've checked those out. BUT I also installed solar panels the same year, and THOSE credits will carry forward, while the EV charging station credit will not. I also bought my EV the same year as well. So it seems that TT is adding in first my $7500 credit for the EV, then $378 left from my solar credit, leaving me with a $1290 carryforward to 2019 from the solar purchase, and then disallowing the EV charging station credit. However, if I completely remove the solar panels from my file, then all of a sudden a credit of $188 shows up for the EV charging station purchase. So while the form 8911 seems to not be integrated into the system, it seems to be putting those credits in in the wrong order. My solar credits should be applied last, since they do carryforward, while the EV purchase credit as well as the EV charging station credit do not carryforward according to IRS instructions.
