When you put in the information for all of your Itemized Deductions, TurboTax will see if they are more than the Standard Deduction, based on your filing status. If your Itemized Deductions are greater than the Standard Deduction, TurboTax will use Itemized Deductions.
If you want to elect to use Itemized Deductions, even if they are less than the Standard Deduction, you can switch to the forms mode, in the upper right hand corner on a PC, and go to Schedule A. Open Schedule A and at the bottom of the form is a box you can check to force the program to use the Itemized Deductions.
