Actually, you don't need the church's (or any charity) tax ID number to claim donations.
What you need from the church (or charity) is a receipt or letter stating :
- Name of organization
- Address
- Date of donation
- Amount of donation
- Statement to the effect that "No goods or services of any value were provided in exchange for the donation."
