Deductions & credits
First, are you filing a resident, part-year resident, or nonresident return?
Second, are any of the numbers (like your mortgage interest) expressed as $XXX.XX? Amounts like $1 or -$1 are often a function of rounding.
If your mortgage interest or other related number is in the format $XXX.XX, then try rounding the number as found on your 1098 and entering it into TurboTax already rounded (this is OK with the IRS and FTB). See if this clears the -$1.
