When you enter each tax document reporting the income items such as Social Security (Form SSA-1099) and KEOGH and pension (Forms 1099-R), there will be a box on the screen to include Federal taxes that were withheld, as reported on your paperwork.  These withheld amounts will then transfer to your Form 1040 as payments toward your taxes.  

 

To go to the section of the tax return to enter this information, use these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “social security income” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to social security income
  • Click on the blue “Jump to social security income” link and enter your information

Also,

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “1099-R” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-R
  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-R” link
