How do I prove to the IRS I should be able to deduct mortgage interest on my inherited mortgage paid via transfer to deceased's account? If I'm not on mortgage acct?

My father died in February, leaving me the house that we lived in.  I have made the payments all year via transfer into his account (he went into a nursing home in January). I just set up the payment to auto deduct from my account (Nov.) and an assumption will take 90-120 days, per the bank.  The bank says I cannot deduct the interest for this year since I am not named on the mortgage (just the Deed). I have lived in the home continuously for 3 years, make all the utility payments (in my name) and had it painted in September.  Will I be allowed to deduct the interest?  How do I prove it to the IRS?
