I am using Turbo Tax to do my Son and Daughter-in-Law's taxes. They paid $8,000 in 2019 to their building contractor to start the construction of their new home. They will owe quite a bit more at the end of construction but would like to know if the $8,000 can be used as a write off and if so, how and where would it go?
