Deductions & credits
Most origination fees and points qualify as deductible.
These are reported on your 1098, on your closing statement (Form HUD-1), or both.
To enter these in your TurboTax return, go to
>Deductions and Credits >Your Home >Mortgage Interest and Refinancing.
Add your bank name and click Continue.
Enter the basics form your 1098 and click Continue.
Answer Yes to "Did you take out this loan in 2016?"At the Tell us about the points you paid screen, you can choose one of the following:
If all origination fees are reported on your 1098, choose: Points are reported on our 1098.
If some origination fees are from your HUD-1, enter ALL of your points here: Points only appear on our closing statement (HUD-1).
Other fees, like application fee, survey, credit check, etc, are not deductible.
Hope this helps.
