Deductions & credits
You will see the questions for the 1st time home buyer credit when you go through the DC state return. Are you a first-time homebuyer in DC and meet one of the following requirements below?
- DC government employee
- An employee of a DC public charter school
- Accepted an offer to be a DC police officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, public school teacher or teacher at a DC public charter school
In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, the home purchased must have a settlement date on or before March 30, 2015.
Note: Except for DC police officers, this tax credit is limited to first principal residences purchased on or after October 1, 2007, but on or before March 30, 2015. Employees must be enrolled in the Employer Assisted Housing Program offered by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development. The credit is available for a 5-year period.
