From this point, there are two things you can do. If Health insurance premiums were deducted from your distributions and if you have proof of it:
- Report the amount in Box 5. in the meantime,ask the plan administrator to issue you a corrected 1099R showing that amount in Box 5. Turbo will ask you a series of questions based on this entry.
- if they refuse, be sure to keep all of your documentation proving that insurance premiums were indeed deducted from the distributions. Keep that proof as part of your tax return in case if you were questioned by IRS about the discrepancy. Make sure you mention to them (if you are questioned by IRS) that the administrator refused to issue a corrected 1099R.
- This all contingent on the fact you are a retired public safety officer.
