I found out that in 2018 I took itemized deduction when standard deduction was clearly more beneficial. Are there other benefits of taking itemized deductions? or mistake

I am wondering if it was an oversight last year on my end or there are other benefits of taking itemized deductions (hence, the system took it over standard deduction last year)?
