Also remember that you need to itemize to claim any charitable deduction. Since the 2017 tax law changed the standard deduction (that you get without itemizing) typically to $14k each person (Single, or joint filing) and limited state and local tax deduction to $10k max, very few people now itemize. That may or may not apply to you, but if you don't itemize (and 90% don't) then the issue is moot.
