You may be able to claim the loss as an itemized deduction.  Here are the steps in TurboTax to help you with your situation. 

 

1   When you get in the "casualty loss" interview, select the "federal disaster area" hyperlink to take you to the FEMA site. 

2.  Once on the FEMA page,  leave everything as "any" except put in the dates for your incident. 

3.  Find your incident and take note of the code (AB-1234) as you will need that in the TurboTax interview.
