Deductions & credits
Foreign mortgage interest is entered into TurboTax as if you had received a 1098.
After converting the amount of interest to US dollars, you can follow the below instructions to enter the amount in TurboTax.
- Click on Federal on the left hand side of your screen
- Enter mortgage interest in the Search bar at the top of your screen
- Click on Jump to Mortgage Interest
- Enter foreign mortgage interest paid in Box 1
If you checked the option that : The seller is financing this loan and I did not receive a 1098, the next screen requests the lender name and address. As there is not an option at this time to enter a foreign address, click what if I don't have this info? at the bottom of the page.
This advises that: You will need to print out and mail in your return with an attachment explaining why you can't provide the seller's info.
