Deductions & credits
Just to clarify, there's no such thing as a "self-employment tax return". If you are a sole proprietor or have a single member LLC, then self-employment income is reported on SCH C as a part of your personal 1040 tax return.
To do that with the online version of TurboTax you need the flavor called TurboTax Self-Employed. With the CD/Desktop version of the program that you physically install on your windows or Mac computer you need the CD version of Premier or Home & Business.
Basically, the only difference between the online Self-Employed version and the CD Home & Business version, is the spelling. Apparently, the bean counters at Intuit didn't think it was confusing enough, so they had to go and "stir the pot" to fix what was never broken to start with. 🙂
Now, the IRS has closed e-filing for the 2018 tax filing season permanently and forever. Additionally, TurboTax has shut down the online version of TurboTax 2018 permanently and forever so they can prepare the online system for the 2019 tax filing season. Therefore if you desire to prepare and file your taxes with TurboTax, you have no choice but you use the CD version installed on your computer.
Then, since e-filing is closed for the 2018 tax season you will have to print, sign and mail the return to the IRS. When you print the return an instruction sheet will print with it. That instruction sheet will tell you what specific and explicit address to mail your federal return to, along with what documents you *MUST* include in the envelope when you mail it.
If you will be filing a state return you will have to print, sign and mail it too. A physically separate instruction sheet will be printed out for the state return. The mailing and inclusion instructions for your state return and your federal return are ***NOT*** the same. So follow the instructions for each, separately.
