Deductions & credits
Income from your business does not have to be reported on a Form 1099-MISC for it to be entered into your return.
Use these steps to go directly to the Business section of your return:
- On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
- This opens a box where you can type in “business income, self-employed” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
- The search results will give you an option to “Jump to business income, self-employed”
- Click on the blue “Jump to business income, self-employed” link
Since you are using the TurboTax Self-Employed online version of the program, if you have already entered information for your business, choose Edit beside the business name. Otherwise, go ahead and enter the preliminary information for your business.
Next you will come to a screen listing several categories of items to work on. Choose Start or Update beside Business Income. Then Start or Update beside General Income. The General Income section is used to report income that was from cash or credit card payments.
