Deductions & credits

Yes, you can still claim your child care expenses. Form 2441 is where you report these expenses. You wouldn't receive a Form 2441 from your child care provider(s). You'll need each provider's name, address, federal ID number (Employer ID Number for an organization or Social Security Number for an individual), and amount you paid them. Entering this information in TurboTax generates Form 2441, which is filed with your tax return if you qualify for the Child and Dependent Care Credit.

To enter your child care expenses on Form 2441:

  • Open (continue) your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click My Account (top right of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the search bar, type 2441.
  • In the results box, highlight 2441, child and dependent care expenses, then click GO.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to complete this section.

Note: If using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function (instead of "My Account") to search for the topic.
