State tax filing
Not knowing what you had withheld, you could owe. Let me assume two different ways:
- Full year resident of one state while working as a nonresident. You would prepare the nonresident first and then prepare the resident and get a credit for tax paid to nonresident state.
- Part year resident of two states. File a part year return with each state claiming only the income that belongs to that state during residency.
You should not be paying full amount to both states without a credit or adjustment.
