State tax filing
Form 1099-DIV itself does not ask for any address information. If you lived in foreign country, you are allowed to e file with the foreign address. However,
- IRS regulations require a U.S. bank account to receive your tax refund, and you'll need a U.S. bank account (or credit/debit card with a U.S. billing address) if paying additional federal taxes owed.
For more information, click here: US address is required.
Since you mentioned the Form 1099-DIV, if you pay taxes on your foreign dividends to both foreign and US government, you may take a foreign tax credit on Form 1116.
Here are the steps:
In TurboTax online,
- Open up your TurboTax account and select Pick up where you left off
- At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "foreign tax credit" and Enter
- Select Jump to foreign tax credit
- Follow prompts
