State tax filing
@ BobHills wrote:I sucessfully efiled fed. I've used tt for 15+ years. I simply go to state efile, at bottom it says in small print i already did fed as well as check status etc. the next page isn't usual efile page, it's a simple brief annoying message that i need to efile fed first, go back and click fed , which you can't because it has been efiled ! Tech support had me hop through hoops to bring in separate state software, ny. they were able to view my keystrokes, see my screen etc. 1hour to 2hours later, failure. and they closed the ticket ,not resolved but claiming so. i 'm using cd software. I uninstalled it. Brought down my download. I guess it's a duplicate in my license because the problem still exist. By the way it preserved the data, i was concerned , i 'd have to completely re-do taxes. i didn't. I can mail them. But I 'm trying to get this fixed. Any body else have this problem with bogus efile status when trying to efile a state, after successfully efile of fed and system says you didn't efile fed ??
This is a known issue for some desktop users (CD/download). You should just hold off for a while and sign up for notifications as explained below in case they have it resolved in the next few days.
But first, since you didn't mention if your efiled Federal return was "accepted", take these steps to make sure and that the status is saved in your file.
This is for the Windows version.
- Launch TurboTax and open your return.
- In the top left corner of the TurboTax interface click on the FILE menu and in the dropdown, choose "Electronic Filing."
- Then in the next menu choose "Check electronic filing status." Hopefully, it will say "accepted."
- Then SAVE the file.
- Then close TurboTax, then re-launch it and try to efile state again, but I'm not real confident you will see any difference. You may still reach the same roadblock.
This issue is a known issue for some users that's being investigated, so there's not a solution at the moment. It started about 4 days ago. "Some" users are finding that they cannot efile their state return by itself even after the Federal return has been accepted.
TurboTax started a trouble ticket and investigation on this issue a few days ago, and there is no new information yet. Hopefully, you "should" be able to efile the state return once they figure out what is causing the roadblock. They started a FAQ on this issue a couple of days ago, where you can sign up for notifications. If it was happening to me, I'd just hold off for a while until I had more word from TurboTax because efiling is much better than filing on paper and mailing. Hopefully, they can figure out a fix soon.
So far they have only this brief FAQ, where you can sign up for notifications:
FAQ: Why am I not able to e-file my state return after filing my Federal return?
