State tax filing

It depends. Is the 1099-R income the only income you have entered in Turbo Tax. If so, did you enter your income in these precise steps?

  1. In the search or find box, type in 1099-R
  2. Click on Jump to 1099-R
  3. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  4. At IRA,401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click Start (or Update)
  5. Enter your 1099-R or if you have entered it, click on Edit then Continue
  6. Now start your state return by selecting state in the left pane of the return.
  7. Answer the questions until you reach a page that mentions your 1099-R income
  8. Complete any information that the program asks for.  Continue and finish the state interview.
  9. Now to check to see if your Mississippi retirement income is excluded, perform these steps.
  10. Go to tax tools>tools>view tax summary
  11. Look at the amount that is listed as Adjusted Gross income (AGI)
  12. Now look at your Mississippi Tax Summary and look under MS Adjusted Gross Income. Is that number reduced by the amount that is in the AGI amount in the Federal Tax Summary.?
  13. if using Turbo Tax Software, you can go into the forms mode and compare AGI amounts.
