State tax filing
So, after many conversations with different specialists, we figured out that it’s not the form 4884 that is the issue, it’s the worksheet that pops up to propagate the form 4884. I’ve seen that it’s supposed to be ready by the 4th, but, nobody I talked to seemed to know. If you don’t need to file state taxes right away and want to e-file your Federal taxes, go to the main area where it asks if you want to file by paper or e-file. Click “file by paper,” and two boxes will pop up for Federal and State. Under Federal, select eFile, and under State, select “I’m not ready to file.” Then, you can do what I’m doing and just keep checking back for the form to be ready, at which point we can eFile state.
What irritates me, is that this worksheet automatically pops up due to my early withdrawal of my 401k due to COVID, and form 4884 applies to a very specific group of people for retirement income deduction based off of age, and I 1 billion percent do not qualify. In other words, this worksheet is COMPLETELY useless to myself, and a lot of other people, and we can’t even delete it from the tax forms to go around it.
