State tax filing
I can't see your tax return but I can make some good guesses.
- You received more income
- paid less in taxes.
- You made a typo
- You lost a credit you received last year
Pull out last year's return and compare it to this year. Look at the income, look at the tax withheld, look at the credits, just look. You will see some differences coming up. Unfortunately, a lot of people received unemployment and did not have tax withheld. That hurt. It could be payroll at work just did not take enough. If work did not withhold enough, you can change your W4 at work to have them withhold a different amount of tax.
- You can change your W4 at work as often as you like.
- You can also use the IRS W4 planner anytime throughout the year to plan your federal refund.Choose a larger or smaller refund vs money in your pocket throughout the year
- When you have salary changes, you can keep up with your correct tax bracket at TurboTax Bracket Calculator.
