I've tried this and the best I can do is to remove the federal exempt income as an NC deduction, but I still cant find a way to make it an NC addition.
The only somewhat relevant page I can find is titled "Here's the income that North Carolina handles differently" but it does not have a choice for this. I tried "Other Deductions from Federal AGI" but that does not have anything for this either.
As far as I can tell, Turbotax is simply ignoring this scenario. There must be other people who have similar needs.
I will keep trying. Maybe I need to start over from a blank slate
